Outreach Ministries
Because of our location on the main street through Ozark, many needy people stop by our church for assistance. We maintain a food pantry with support from the Ozark Council of Churches. Those who are hungry find a helping hand inside our doors. We also provide gas money and occasional motel rooms for transients.
First United Methodist Church in Ozark also reaches out to the community through our television ministry. The balcony of our sanctuary has become a television production studio for our Sunday morning worship services that are broadcast over a local cable channel. The Methodist Men provide the manpower and the funding for this ministry to the sick and shut-in of our congregation, plus countless numbers of people in the community, the hospital, and the nursing home who watch every Sunday or channel-surf and discover us. Our brass organ pipes arching behind the choir loft are a familiar Sunday morning sight.
For several years we sent mission teams to various parts of the United States to assist with disaster relief or with building projects. In 1992 a group of our members traveled to southern Louisiana to help people clean up after Hurricane Andrew. The next summer they went to Missouri to clean up after the disastrous Missouri River flooding. They have worked in Oklahoma on several church construction projects, and they have provided assistance to people in our surrounding community by roofing houses and repairing porches. Our youth have also made several summer mission trips to assist those who are less fortunate.
Many groups needing a place to gather, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Weight Watchers, and TOPS, use our physical facilities.
